Within the framework of Minia University’s commitment to strengthening academic cooperation and advancing the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence, Prof. Dr. Essam Farhat, President of Minia University, received a high-level academic delegation that included Dr. Nagwa Lotfy Mostafa Badr, President of East London University – Cairo Branch and former Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information at Ain Shams University; Dr. Hala Helmy Zayed, former Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence at Benha University and Secretary of the Computer Science and Informatics Sector Committee; and Dr. Mohamed Sayed Qayed, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence at Beni Suef University.
The delegation was received on behalf of Minia University by Dr. Essam Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information, and Dr. Walid Makram Mohamed, Head of the Information Systems Department at the Faculty.
The visit coincided with the discussion of a doctoral dissertation submitted by researcher Mohamed Arafa Mehdi at the Faculty of Computers and Information, entitled “An Event Recognition System Using Multi-Task Systems and Elastic Computing.” This comes as part of Minia University’s continued support for scientific research and its encouragement of researchers to present advanced academic theses that keep pace with rapid global developments in computer science and artificial intelligence, while contributing to the establishment of a knowledge-based society capable of regional and international competitiveness.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Essam Farhat emphasized the growing importance of computer science and artificial intelligence disciplines in light of accelerating digital transformation. He noted that Minia University places particular strategic emphasis on these fields, especially following the university’s achievement of a distinguished position in the prestigious Shanghai Ranking, where it was ranked as the second-highest university among Egyptian universities. This recognition, he explained, reflects the strength of the university’s academic and research performance.
The President of the University further outlined ongoing efforts to develop the Faculty of Computers and Information as a national model of excellence through the modernization of academic programs, enhanced support for scientific research, and the expansion of partnerships with academic and industrial institutions.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Farhat highlighted the university’s plan to establish a Center of Research Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, dedicated to supporting applied research and linking research outputs to the needs of both the academic and industrial sectors, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary integration between computer science and related scientific fields.
This meeting underscores Minia University’s strategic vision to advance innovation, foster academic collaboration, and reinforce its leadership role in emerging technological disciplines.
