Puplish date: 2025-09-10

Landmark Accreditation, a First for a University Hospital, Signals a New Era of Healthcare Quality in Upper Egypt.

In a significant achievement for medical excellence, Professor Essam Farahat, President of Minia University, has announced that the University Hospital of Liver and Gastrointestinal Diseases has been awarded preliminary accreditation by the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR).

This prestigious certification follows the hospital's successful compliance with rigorous national quality standards, which are themselves internationally recognized by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). This accomplishment positions the hospital at the forefront of Egypt's healthcare transformation, particularly as the nation prepares for the second phase of its comprehensive health insurance system. The accreditation underscores a strategic commitment to qualifying and supporting vital health entities, especially university hospitals, to implement the highest standards of care.

President Farahat extended his heartfelt congratulations to the university hospitals' administration and the medical and administrative staff of the hospital, praising their dedicated and relentless efforts in achieving this success. He emphasized that the accreditation is a strategic step towards enhancing the quality of healthcare in Upper Egypt and is the fruit of comprehensive collaboration between medical and administrative personnel, fulfilling the university's mission to serve the community.

"This accreditation is part of the university's policy to operate within an integrated system of quality and accreditation, both academically and medically," stated Dr. Farahat. "The university will spare no effort in elevating the level of healthcare services provided to the people of Minia and Upper Egypt."

He further noted that the accreditation is not merely a quality certificate but a message of trust to the community, affirming that healthcare services at Minia University are progressing with steady strides towards excellence. He confirmed that the hospital would continue its pioneering role in providing advanced and appropriate medical services, worthy of the dignity of the Egyptian citizen and contributing to alleviating the health burdens on patients and their families.

For his part, Professor Ayman Hassanein, the University Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development and Executive Director of the University Hospitals, elaborated on the significance of the accrediting body. He stated that GAHAR is the national authority responsible for accrediting hospitals and monitoring the quality of medical services in Egypt and is internationally recognized by ISQua.

"This international recognition gives the accreditation a special value," Dr. Hassanein explained, "as it reflects the hospital's commitment to implementing global standards in patient safety and service quality."
