The University of Minia clinched the second place and the silver medal, with player Abd El Rahman Mohamed Khalaf also winning the Best Player award, during the 19th Arab Five-a-Side Football Tournament held at South Valley University, with participation from 17 Egyptian and Arab universities. The event took place at the Olympic Village fields on the university campus in Qena under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities.
Prof. Dr. Essam Farhat, President of the University of Minia, emphasized the university's keen focus on student activities as a fundamental pillar in shaping the character of university students, developing their leadership and sports skills. He reiterated the university's commitment to supporting its talented students and preparing them for active participation in local and international competitions to proudly represent their university and country.
Dr. Farhat highlighted that such tournaments present an ideal opportunity to promote honorable sportsmanship, expand the practice of activities among Egyptian and Arab university students, fostering friendship, goodwill, and cooperation. This aligns with the state's commitment to human development and capacity-building under the leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The university president noted that the Arab Five-a-Side Football Tournament serves as a distinguished model for sports and cultural gatherings, facilitating knowledge exchange and the acquisition of proper sports skills within the framework of fair competition and sporting spirit.
The university delegation was overseen by Walid Abdelkawi, Director General of Student Affairs, accompanied by Dr. Ahmed Besiouni Hassan, Director of the Sports Activity Department, Dr. Yousry Khalaf Abdel Baqi, and Dr. Moustafa SHady Abu Al Saud, the team's coach.
